How is IVF Process Done
Infertility refers to the situation in which couples have natural and regular sexual intercourse for one year, but cannot have children. Infertility can occur due to many factors. Some of these factors are congenital, while others may occur later. Today, 15 out of every hundred couples have infertility problems. The problem of infertility is increasing day by day. Assisted reproductive methods are used for the treatment of couples with infertility problems. Among these methods, the most successful one is in vitro fertilization treatment. In vitro fertilization treatment can be defined by fertilizing the reproductive cells taken from men and women in a laboratory environment and then transferring them to the uterus of the expectant mother. IVF methods are diverse. Appropriate treatment methods are determined according to the couple’s infertility status.
How is IVF process done; The couple has sexual intercourse for a year in order to have a child with natural and unprotected methods, but if pregnancy does not occur, a specialist should be consulted. If the woman is older than 35, then the waiting period is 6 months. After waiting six months, an infertility specialist should be consulted.
Next, the IVF Specialist should investigate the couple’s infertility situation in detail. In this study, factors such as the couple’s medical history, sexual diseases, previous operations, infertility period or working environment are also investigated. First, sperm analysis is performed on the male candidate. In this way, sperm count and morphological characteristics are determined and their fertilization abilities are investigated. Then, if deemed necessary, urological examination and other examinations can be performed.
How is IVF Treatment Done
Female infertility is more complicated. For this reason, structures such as tubes, uterine condition, hormonal factors, fibroids and polyps are investigated. Since there are more factors that can cause infertility in women, research should be done in more detail.
After infertility problems are determined, the treatment method suitable for the couple is started. First, the ovaries of the expectant mother are stimulated. Then the stimulated eggs are collected when they reach the desired maturity. The collected eggs are fertilized with sperm cells taken from the father-to-be and then transferred to the mother’s uterus 3 or 5 days later.
The number of transferred embryos is determined as 2 if the expectant mother is over 35 years old and the first two IVF attempts. However, if the expectant mother is younger than 35, then only one embryo transfer is allowed.
When is a pregnancy test done?
Pregnancy test is done 12 days after embryo transfer. The couple does not need to come to the center during this time.
